The Rice Breeding and Genetics Project 1542 is responsible for 1) Developing semi-dwarf long and medium-grain rice cultivars for Arkansas farmers using conventional, anther culture and Molecular Aided Selection techniques 2) Broadening the genetic base of Arkansas rice to reduce vulnerability to abiotic and biotic stresses, and increase yield potential 3) Conducting plant breeding studies with emphasis on traits relevant in Arkansas field conditions such as straight head disorder, cold tolerance and grain and milling quality, and 4) Cooperating regionally by conducting the Uniform Regional Rice Nursery.
