Brief description of research: The main objective of this research is:

1) To transfer new genes for pest resistance, including blast and sheath blight, into cultivated rice (Oryza sativa) from other rice species (Oryza spp.) by wide hybridization and 2) Characterize the Oryza spp., backcross progenies, and selected genetic stocks using molecular markers.
