Research Overview
 
Conducts research to identify alternative cropping systems, management practices, or technologies that promote the long-term economic sustainability of rice production in Arkansas. Also conducts research evaluating the economic impacts of farm size and government policies on rice farm profitability.
 
Recent research activities include:

* Evaluation of the economic benefits and costs of zero-grade rice production.
* Development of on-line costs of production budgets for Arkansas rice
* Economic comparison of no-till to conventional till management in Arkansas rice production
* Economic evaluation of alternative rotation crops (corn, wheat) in Arkansas rice production
* Economic feasibility of using the Clearfield technology to control red rice
* Development of representative Arkansas rice farms for use in financial simulation analysis and government and environmental policy analysis

Research activities involve cooperation with agricultural economists and researchers from other disciplines (agronomists, crop breeders, plant pathologists, entomologists, soil scientists, weed scientists). Research efforts also involve formal and informal collaboration with various government agencies (USDA Economic Research Service, National Agricultural Statistics Service) and collaboration with land grant institutions and colleges throughout the United States.
